Our Way of Making an Impact on Education in South Africa
We advocate for innovative thinking in education, starting with six-year-old kids, through collaborative spaces, or makerspaces, designed to make learning, exploring and sharing high-tech design tools and equipment accessible and fun for children through a process of play, discovery and learning.
Current Programs

The MakerClub Program
The MakerClub Program takes place at designated schools in Soweto, twice a month, STEM education extracurricular activities are held after school, which allow for the acquisition of practical and theoretical knowledge and stimulating new ways of thinking and learning through play.

Design Makerspace Project powered by Department of Arts and Culture
In partnership with DAC, we have identified 3 township community centres in Soweto, Thembisa and Springs in Gauteng were we Hold Design Makerspace programs once a month with the aim of transferring design skills to unemployed youths.

Accenture #STEMHackathon

Accenture #STEMHackathon
In celebration of Mandela Month, We partnered with Accenture South Africa in hosting a #STEMHackathon on the 20th of July 2019. The event was held at Impact Hub JHB were 45 young enthusiasts from Alexandra, Diepsloot and Olievenhoutbosch into six groups. The first three groups were tasked to build a telegraph out of everyday objects—which introduces them to the variety of electrical components and their implementation for communications. The remaining three were tasked in building robotic models out of cardboard and straws—also introducing them to the anatomical structure of the human hand—before conducting trials via Excel to spot flaws in their design.

Google Digital Skills For Africa

Google Digital Skills For Africa
Over the course of 2017 and 2018, we implemented digital skills training on behalf of Google Africa for Grade 12 learners, unemployed youth between 15-35 years and Township based Small Business owners based in townships. We worked with 14 youth trainers in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo to roll out the much-needed skills in underserviced areas.

Siemens Makerspace @Impact Hub JHB
We partnered with Siemens Stiftung and Impact Hub Johannesburg in 2017-2018 as lead implementor in the development of the Siemens Makerspace situated at Impact Hub. The Makerspace took in three ideation/concept entrepreneurs that have a need a working space to create, develop and test their products as well as equip themselves with business development skills.
